2020 was definitely a year for the books. But now that we are well into 2021 I am so looking forward to what the new chapter will bring. Hopefully there will be more hugs than we can count and we will all laugh so much, our cheeks will hurt.
We are already starting to see some bookings for the 2021 season which is very exciting. Some of our guests are local from the Mainland and others will be staying at The ROOST for their 14 days of quarantine before they visit with family. We are so happy to be a small part of these family reunions. One of our guests, once they finish their quarantine will be doing a self guided solo trip throughout the Atlantic Provinces with their dog. What an amazing experience that will be! I gotta say I’m a tad jealous!!
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t put off ’till tomorrow what we can do today! Wether that be stopping in to visit family and friends or travelling and seeing all that this beautiful country has to offer.

My challenge to you all – don’t stop putting things on your bucket list, but be sure to start doing things on your bucket list!
We just welcomed our first guests to The ROOST.
We would like to thank them for choosing The ROOST to be their base camp as they explored beautiful CAPE BRETON and we are so glad they enjoyed their stay.

What an honour to be the first people to stay at your beautiful, welcoming home! The love you have for Cape Breton and for The Roost is obvious everywhere. I do not think it is possible to be unhappy here.
We used your guide along the Cabot Trail, although we did not follow it exactly. Tim Horton’s does have excellent oatcakes – I am now addicted to them, and will miss them when I’m back home. And the Rusty Anchor (we had lunch there, not dinner) has the best lobster rolls.
If you are at all interested in hiking, National Park’s Ten Short Hikes in one Day challenge is great fun, or there are many more challenging opportunities as well.
And we ended up spending the better part of a day at the Celtic College – I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the Scottish, as apposed to Irish Celtic Heritage.
Finally, thank you for your gracious hospitality from afar and for opening The Roost for us. May you spend many happy years to come in this home you have built with love.

Hello and welcome to our home away from home – The ROOST on Big Harbour. In 2015 our little family of 4 travelled to East Coast for 3 weeks and FELL IN LOVE!!! We fell in love particularly with Cape Breton, the scenery, the people and the way of life are so special that it is hard to stay way. So much so, that in 4 years we have been back 10 times and on our most recent visit we found our dream home where we plan to retire to. But in the mean time, we would like to share it with others who wish to experience the beauty that Cape Breton has to offer. Welcome. Kick off your shoes, sit back and enjoy.
